In January Mitch and I jetted off to Hawaii for 11 days on Kauai's North Shore. We met up with Mitch's parents who were getting away from Saskatoon's winter. Here are some photos from the trip.
Below are some photos from the beach less than five minutes from our house. Drinking wine on the beach while watching the sunset was pretty amazing.
We checked out Limahuli Garden and Preserve with Mitch's parents. We had visited the gardens in 2011 while we were on our honeymoon and it was a real highlight for us, so we jumped at the chance to share the experience with Gayle and Joe. You can take a self guided tour through the garden that helps you understand the history of the island as well as teaches you about the local plants.
Mitch's dad, Joe, is an animal behaviourist who has a real passion for cows. At home in Saskatoon Gayle and Joe have some beautiful Speckle Park Cattle and the research that Joe's been a part of and continues to work on is really inspiring. It only seemed natural that Joe would check out some Hawaiian farms while we were there.
We had the extreme good fortune of getting to tag along when Joe visited Jurassic Kahili Ranch. We snapped photos as Randall Cremer, the Ranch Foreman and Joe talked about cattle. If you are buying beef on the island of Kauai you should try their beef - it was really obvious that they care very deeply for their cattle.
It was a truly fantastic trip! I will leave with one last photo - a shot of our awesome bedroom at the Mermaid House! We had a mountain view from our bed!
